White Cypress Sawn-Face Cladding Callitris Glaucophylla - Native White Cypress Pine A kiln-dried board milled in native timber, harvested from licensed forests, and a durable alternative to hardwood or composite fibreboard Timberzoo stocks a timber cladding which is prefect for building projects in a coastal and bushland setting. Our Sawn-Face Cladding is available in both 80mm and 105mm cover, in shiplap profile with tongue and groove, and has a texture defined by the shallow arc of a bench saw. The visible kerf marks are more compelling as the years pass; colours leach to silver-grey and timber-clad buildings seem to merge with trees, shrubs and grasses when founded in a native garden setting. KD White Cypress Sawn-Face Cladding is Durability Class 2 (in- ground) with a durable heartwood. It can be used in BAL-12.5 and BAL-19 category bushfire zones for residential building only above 400mm from ground. The timber is Lyctid borer and termite resistant. The profile allows vertical or horizontal fixing of the same board - the rebate having a slightly eased-edge on the lower edge. Walls should be oiled post-installation, then every three years, with Sceneys Decking Oil - or a similar penetrating protective oil. The oil treatment rejuvenates the exposed surface layer - which dries in harsh sunlight over the years - by replacing the natural resinous waterproofing of white cypress. We strongly recommend that you allow the timber to age this natural way - though it can take several years to form a silver-grey. There are commercial timber treatments and coatings available which can supply a very even tone to walls to overcome the shading effects in natural weathering that bother some people. We do not stock or supply any products other than Sceneys Decking Oil - however, our Woodshed displays at Timberzoo show a few of these, and we have complied a list of them for you. Products that attempt a weathered silver-grey patina by chemical wash, oil tint or water- based finish are listed as follows. Search these brands online to discover more about them: a. Woca Exterior Wood Oil - with a range of tints including Wharf Grey b. Grimes & Sons - Controlled Erosion Stains - including weathered grey tones c. Intergrain NaturalStain - including Driftwood tint d. Cutek Colourtone - including Grey Mist e. Haymes Woodcare Exterior range with several grey tints f. Sioox Wood Coatings - chemically alter the tannins in surface of timber Products that give a traditional Japanese char-black effect: g. Porters Palm Beach Black - Shou Sugi Ban timber-look without burning or scorching
FAQs Why is White Cypress a sustainable native timber? Before European settlement, Callitris stands formed part of a mixed-species open woodland in the regions where dense forests now predominate. Callitris agressively colonised native grasslands grazed by sheep and cattle, and became a dominant species when ironbark (E. Crebra) stands were harvested. These new cypress forests are now sustainably harvested under licence to an annual limit of sawlog without reducing the volume (number of viable trees) under management or their extent in central western New South Wales. Can 80mm or 105mm cladding be secret nailed? No, both sizes require face nailing with galvanised 50mm x 2.8mm gauge nails or ring-shanked galvanised nails. Two nails per board in face. The fixings have low visibility in the coarse texture of Sawn-Face Cladding. See both Timber Queensland TDS Cladding and the new Boral Cladding Installation Guide for fixing details. Recommendations for hardwood and cypress cladding are alike. Can I order set-lengths or are boards in random-length packs? There is a limited range - but yes, you can order set-lengths. Since most installations are vertical, we stock lengths of 3.0m, 3.6m and 5.4m to cover the most common wall lengths and allow offcuts to be used above windows and doors. These lengths are likely to minimise wastage on horizontal installations too - and you should determine your length spread before placing an order. The cladding lengths given are mostly finger- jointed boards. What are the fire properties of White Cypress cladding? Callitris is not included on BRT list for BAL-29 nor included on E1 Table of dense timbers >750kgs/m3 (although certified tests have established density of dryland Callitris at 760-775kgs/m3). Can be used above 400mm from ground in BAL-19 zones. Spread of Flame Index - 8 Smoke Developed Index - 3 Critical Radiance Flux Range - 2.2 up to 4.5 Smoke Development Rate - < 750 Fire Properties Group No - 3 (slightly combustible) Is there an installation guide for Sawn-Face cladding? The best guide for installation according to the current Australian Standard is the recently updated Boral Cladding guidelines. It was completed with input from industry groups, Timber Queensland and Wood Solutions. The Guide applies to both White Cypress and hardwood shiplap cladding. How do I get a quotation for Sawn-Face cladding? Please send us your total square metre requirements and town / suburb for delivery. One of our Sales Team will supply a quotation price including delivery, plus PDF advice sheets and images.
